- PBS Resources for Teachers. http://www.pbs.org/teachers/ This resource covers a variety of subject areas including reading, media, history, and science. The website is versatile in being appropriate for PreK through grade 12 and has tabs at the top of the page organized by grade level. This resource is specifically for teachers to use. http://www.pbs.org/teachers/ contains material such as video lessons for a classroom and classifies those lessons by grade level. Each lesson has a bibliography and provides further resources to use in research on the lesson at hand. This website also has resources for teachers that allow them to learn how to use media in the classroom. Under each grade level range (i.e. K-2) lessons are organized by subject area such as the arts, math, and social studies. I would use this in my first grade classroom to get creative ideas on lesson plans and use it as a resource as a teacher to further my qualifications and knowledge about subjects and lessons.
- Internet 4 Classrooms. http://www.internet4classrooms.com/skill_builders/plurals_language_arts_first_1st_grade.htm This website includes interactive content for grades K-12. The subjects covered range from English to math. This is an interactive website as well as an informational rescource for students where they can choose what subjects they want to learn and do activities related to that subject. http://www.internet4classrooms.com/skill_builders/plurals_language_arts_first_1st_grade.htm contains material for language arts and math and also lists past and present standards for every grade. In the classroom this website could be used to complete language arts and math activities coinciding with lessons being taught in the classroom at the time.
- Ixl.com. http://www.ixl.com/math/grade-1/counting-review-0-to-10 IXL is a website that organizes math lessons by grade level (PreK-8). Once you click on the intended grade level, a list of activities and reviews are listed and can be chosen by either the teacher or student and should be completed by the student. Math lessons are organized by grade and are put into different categories for every grade level. For instance, first grade includes counting, adding, subtracting and patterns. This is both a student resource area as well as an interactive website for students and focuses on mathematics. http://www.ixl.com/math/grade-1/counting-review-0-to-10 contains math activities including lessons, games, and reviews. It is completely grade oriented and only contains math appropriate for each grade. This could be used in the classroom for math lessons and to test the students’ knowledge of lessons already learned in the classroom.
- Discovery Kids. http://kids.discovery.com/ This website is purely for students and contains activities for all elementary grade levels. This is an interactive site that contains games, activities and puzzles for different academic subjects, but mostly science. http://kids.discovery.com/ contains scientific information in the form of fun and very interactive activities while allowing students to have a rich involvement in science and animal related subjects. I would use this website in the form of a reward in the classroom where the students learn about a subject then go to Discovery Kids to do a related activity.
- PBS Kids. http://pbskids.org/ This website is intended for elementary aged students. The subjects it covers includes math, social studies, and language arts. This website is an interactive site for students. http://pbskids.org/ is a website that coincides with PBS Kids on television and all the educational shows on that channel. Again this website could be used once a week in the classroom to instill educational lessons while allowing the students to enjoy the process of learning.
- PBS. http://www.pbs.org/ is a website purely for student resource. This website contains information on many varied subjects including science, history, and social studies. This website is practical for students of all ages, but older students may be able to benefit more due to the vast range of subjects. This would be a site for informational student use. PBS.org is a reference website as you can look up many different subjects and find related information. This website is also in connection to PBS’s network shows which are also referential and educational. In the classroom, I would suggest to my students to use this site for research projects or assignments.
- http://www.webs.uidaho.edu/info_literacy/ This website covers subjects involving student literacy. It would be advantageous for elementary grade levels, perhaps fifth and sixth grade mostly. This is another site for informational-student use. http://www.webs.uidaho.edu/info_literacy/ is a reference website for students who are studying literacy. The main goal of this website is to increase a student’s understanding of conduction research and learning how to research using credible sources. This could be useful in the classroom if students are doing research for the first time and need to learn how to do so.
- http://www.ipl.org/ The “Internet Public Library” is a great resource for students of all ages, especially upper elementary classes. Of course this site covers all subjects and is a site for informational student use. http://www.ipl.org/ is a site that is a source for researching. It is an online library that contains credible articles, magazines, and newspapers. This could be use in a fifth or sixth grade classroom during a research project because the student could be sure they are using appropriate sources.
- http://www.factmonster.com/ is a website that covers all subjects, especially those covered in elementary school such as US History, science, and money. I would recommend this website for students in second through sixth grade. This is an informational website for student use. http://www.factmonster.com/ has resources for students to check their facts in various subjects and learn more about these subjects. This would be a great website in the classroom to accompany lesson plans dealing with similar subjects.
- http://www.gutenberg.org/ This website is very useful to any student because it allows you to download thousands of books that may be required in a class. This website is appropriate for third to twelfth grade and has books available in a wide range of subjects to download. This is definitely an informational website intended for student use. http://www.gutenberg.org/ is a site that has electronic books ready to download. This would be useful if you can’t find a required reading to purchase or if you just want a quick way to read the assigned book.
